MASTER OF MANAGEMENT (TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY)2 YEARS


The Master of Management in Tourism and Hospitality is for postgraduate students looking to strengthen their career prospects in senior management and leadership roles in business. It is a modern business degree designed to develop your strategic thinking and conceptual, analytical and practical skills. You will combine core business and management studies with specialist tourism and hospitality electives. A comprehensive 600 hour Industry Research Project will hone your professional skills and demonstrate to future employers that you have the experience and tenacity to succeed in senior management.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?


The Master of Management is structured to provide you with the perfect balance of theoretical coursework and practical experience. The Master of Management with a specialization in Tourism and Hospitality consists of the following:


  • 3 semesters (12 subjects) of in-depth coursework studies plus an Industry Research Project where you will work with an organisation in your industry for 600 hours and apply your knowledge to real business issues.
  • Delivery through a combination of small lectures, tutorials, workshops and industry research to cater for a range of learning styles.
  • The two-year course duration means international students are eligible for a two-year post-study work visa.



ENTRY REQUIREMENTS



  • Academic requirements:
  • A Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in any discipline or
  • A Diploma or Associate Degree qualification and 4 years of relevant management experience or
  • 5 years of relevant management experience
  • English language requirements:
  • If your first language is not English, you must demonstrate English language proficiency prior to enrolment.
  • IELTS: 6.5, no band less than 6.0 TOEFL iBT: 86

A TASTE OF WHAT YOU’LL STUDY HOTEL MANAGEMENT SIMULATIONS

Think you’ve got what it takes to design and run the best hotel? Compete with other ICMS students while you test your decision-making skills in a simulated but highly realistic environment. You will use advanced software that simulates hotel operations including front office, the lodging cycle and the application of yield management principles in forecasting demand. It might sound tricky at first but it is a great way to get you thinking like a hotel manager.


GASTRONOMY


Did you know that there is a relationship between people, place, food and drinks? In Gastronomy you will evaluate and analyse the social and cultural aspects of food and drinks. You will also learn about the role of taste, nutrition and obesity in relation to diet and society. The university will take you on a gastronomy study tour to discover modern trends and practices in hospitality, food and culture.


OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND COST CONTROL


Engage with real clients on real hospitality events. In this subject you will work closely with your classmates to conceptualize, plan and implement an event for up to 200 guests. Working on events like weddings, functions, dinners and conferences, you will gain first hand experience in working for clients with high expectations. This will test your teamwork and project management skills.

FEES & EXPENSES

Studying a degree is a big commitment in many ways, not least financially. You will need to consider tuition fees, living costs and other expenses such as transport, textbooks, food and accommodation.
The main expense will be tuition fees. Students studying a Bachelor course pay tuition fees on a trimester basis. Tuition fees are not payable during industry training trimesters unless part-time study has been arranged and students may be paid during industry training trimesters. You must complete all prerequisite subjects before starting your industry training. Similarly, postgraduate students pay tuition fees on a semester basis and tuition fees are not payable during the semester that you complete your industry training research project unless part-time study has been arranged.
