On the rocks


On the Rocks is a truly unique dining venue.It is located on top of dark volcanic rocks that extend into the ocean, guests can hear the waves crashing beneath them and almost dip their toes in the waters as they savour fresh sea food from the live grill, salads, pasta and wood-fired pizza. Guests who have had a successful day’s fishing on Turtle Bay can also have their catch cooked by the chefs, according to their preference.


The Bar

The Bar is housed in a traditional, open-sided thatched roof structure, caressed by balmy sea breezes and lit by a magnificent cast iron chandelier. The space is adorned with an antique swing and an ebony piano, played by jazz and classical musicians every evening.

The GunPowder Room

The Gunpowder Room is a recognised national monument that dates back to French colonial times. With rustic, brick walls, rough stone floors, antique wine barrels and glittering chandeliers, guests who enter the Gunpowder Room will be transported back to a bygone era.

Destination Highlights

Port Louis

Port Louis is the capital and main port of Mauritius, Port Louis was founded by the French governor, Mahe de Labourdonnais in 1735. There are two Cathedrals, a Mosque, a fine Supreme Court, some 18th century Barracks and a Natural History Museum. To see a fascinating cross - section of Mauritian life, visit the lively covered market. Chamarel (Coloured Earth)

Chamarel is a mound of undulating land stretching in contrasting layers of colour, and the patches of blue, green, red and yellow earth are to be the result of weathering. The nearby Chamarel waterfall emerges from the moors and primeval vegetation and is very beautiful.It is 55 km away and 1 hour drive.

IIe Aux Cerfs

Off the east coast of Mauritius of the island resort Ile Aux Cerfs lies the beauiful IIe Aux Cerfs. The island has two restaurants, a boathouse and miles of beautiful and golden beaches. Lovers of water sports can have a great day out in the sun and sea and is located just 45 km and is 1 and 30 mins drive from the hotel.

Pamplemousses

These gardens are known to naturalists worldwide for their large collection of exotic plants, including the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies and many species of palm trees. Of particular interest is the Talipot Palm, which is said to flower once every sixty years and thereafter dies.

Grand Bassin

One of the island's two natural lakes is Grand Bassin. It rests in the crater of an extinct volcano and is a place of pilgrimage for a large number of Mauritians of Hindu faith, especially on the occasion of Maha Shivaratree and is 1 hour drive from the hotel.

Black River Gorges National Park

Black River Gorges National Park is 6,574 hectare park, proclaimed in 1994, protects much of the remaining native forests of Mauritius and provides opportunities for the visitor to enjoy spectacular natural scenery and some of the unique endemic plants and bird life. There are also a number of long walking trails across the region, including one to the island's highest point, Black River Peak at 828 metres.
